Are you more of a complainer or someone who is grateful? What would the people around you say? Would they say you were more of a thankful person or someone who complains?
I think all of us want to be good team players, however, the way we view ourselves impacts our ability to be a good teammate. Each of us bring a unique self-perspective that is based on how we feel about ourselves. If you are a grateful person you tend to see yourself as one of the team. The whole team matters not just you. Whatever is in the best interest of the team is most important. So you are able to consider how others feel and you act for the good of all. In other words, the world doesn’t revolve around you. You are thankful to be a part of the team!
If you complain and grumble it is most likely that you see yourself as the center of the universe or the most important person on the team. All that matters is how you are treated, your feelings, your demands and wants. It’s as if you deserve to have everything go your way. Your focus is on what you want and need rather than considering others. You will never be truly satisfied because life isn’t about just you. Self-centeredness is not an attractive quality in any teammate.
Being a part of a team means that you are part of something bigger than yourself. When the team succeeds you succeed. When the team comes first everyone benefits.
Next time you start being impatient or irritated, hit the pause button and think about why you are unhappy. Are you being selfish? Self-serving? What good would it due to show a bad attitude or to voice a complaint? Before you hit the play button, remember it’s a privilege to be on a team and to be given the talents and abilities to compete. Choose to be thankful rather than grumble or complain.
I can guarantee thankfulness will beat complaining every time. Gratitude will be a gamechanger for you and your team.
